Microbus crashes into pond; police recover 9 sacks of cannabis in B'baria
Police on Friday recovered nine sacks of smuggled Indian cannabis from a microbus that plunged into a pond during a high-speed chase in Kasba upazila.
The incident occurred in the morning in the Khidirpur area of Binaouty union. No arrests have been made as the driver and smugglers managed to swim ashore and escape.
According to police, acting on a tip-off about a large shipment of Indian cannabis, a team from Kasba Police Station set up a checkpoint on the Syedabad-Nayanpur road in the early hours of Friday. When a suspicious black microbus ignored signals to stop and sped away, police gave chase.
In an attempt to evade law enforcement, the microbus turned onto the Andirpar-Monkashair road connected to the Kasba-Syedabad road. However, the driver lost control of the vehicle while speeding through Khidirpur village, causing it to crash into a roadside pond.
As the vehicle submerged, several packages of cannabis floated to the surface. Police subsequently used a crane to salvage the microbus and recovered nine sacks of cannabis from the water.
Ali Mohammad Rashed, Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), said the vehicle and the seized drugs have been brought to the station, and efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects, reports UNB.
