Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has met US presidential envoy Tom Barrack to discuss security developments in the region.

During Monday’s meeting, the two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the US and Iraq.

In a statement on X, Barrack thanked al-Zaidi for his “leadership and partnership”.

The talks follow last month’s full withdrawal of US troops deployed to Iraq. The move was the culmination of a years-long withdrawal process, which has been hailed by Iraq’s government as an important step in reclaiming the country’s sovereignty amid two decades of war and foreign intervention, reports AL Jazeera.
