3 more children die of measles-like symptoms in Sylhet

Three children died of measles-like symptoms in Sylhet division in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, taking the total number of deaths from the disease and related symptoms in the division to 151 this year.

During the same period, six new measles cases were confirmed, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the division to 1,031 this year, according to the Office of the Sylhet Divisional Director of Health.

According to the report, two children died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. One of them was five months old and the other was 11 months old.

Another nine-month-old child died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, 128 new patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to different hospitals across the division during the same period.

Of them, 59 were admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 60 to Osmani Medical College Hospital and nine to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

Currently, 356 suspected measles patients are receiving treatment at hospitals across the division.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 141 people died in the division this year after developing measles-like symptoms, while 10 deaths have been recorded among confirmed measles patients. -UNB
