Bangladesh and Germany on Wednesday signed a financial agreement on development cooperation.

Under this agreement Germany will finance Euro 52.5 million or approximately Tk 724 crore for the project ‘Climate Change Adapted Urban Development Programme’ VIII.

Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh and Achim Tröster, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh, signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments.

This is the first funding after the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) of Bangladesh – German Climate and Development Partnership (CDP), signed by the two governments in December 2024.

The project under this fund will support local government institutions to strengthen the adaptive capacity and reduce the exposure of vulnerable population to climate change effects by improving the living conditions and through climate-sensitive planning and implementation of infrastructure projects for climate adaptation, reports UNB.

The fund can also be used for replenishments and future follow-up projects of German cooperation, said the German Embassy in Dhaka.
