Nurture local culture to stop sabotage of Bangladesh society

Speakers at an iftar mahfil on Friday called for concerted efforts to nurture the cultural life of Bangladesh to build a happy and prosperous society by guarding against alien cultural aggressions.

They said that the influence of politics in Bangladesh was not so much that its culture is ignored that the vacuum is filled by alien culture which is eroding the foundations of Bangladesh’s society.

The iftar mahfil was organized by the GreenWatch Dhaka online newspaper at the National Press Club.

Prof. Jasim Uddin Ahmad, former Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Chairman of First Security Islami Bank, Poet and Journalist Salem Suleri, Jousnalist and Social Worker Abu Sayeed Shaheen spoke at the milad mahfil moderated by Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Editor, GreenWatch Dhaka,

Earlier a video on the significance of Ramadan and the atrocities being perpetrated against the Muslims in Palestine and India in the holy month was screened.

Abdul Mannan drew attention to the trend of sabotaging the Bangladesh society in the name of cultural activities in the country. This should be taken note of and fought with promotion of healthy local culture he said adding that before the Muslim conquest of Bengal the society was conquered by Muslim saints who had come from far flung areas to spreat the message of equality of man and faith in God.

Prof. Jasim Uddin Ahmad deplored that the Palestinians were being subjected to killings even in the sacred month of Ramadan when they fast and remain busy with worships day and night. They are even denied of food. Their miseries can be ended only through united efforts of Muslim countries, he said.
