Shah Ahmed Shafi, the newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to South Africa, formally presented his Letters of Credence to South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa in a ceremony held in Pretoria.

The event, hosted at the Presidential Guest House on Thursday, also saw envoys from 14 countries, including Japan, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Portugal, Nepal, Mongolia, Panama, and Canada, presenting their credentials.

In his address, High Commissioner Shafi emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and South Africa. He urged President Ramaphosa to consider establishing a South African High Commission in Dhaka and extended an invitation for him to visit Bangladesh in early 2026.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s rapid economic growth, Shafi stressed the potential for increased trade and investment between the two nations. He also called for enhanced connectivity and deeper people-to-people ties.

Shafi commended South Africa’s development achievements and expressed appreciation for its ongoing support of Palestine, reaffirming Bangladesh’s full solidarity on the matter.
