Australia Opens New 'Home Affairs Office' in Dhaka

As part of its expanding bilateral ties with Bangladesh, the Albanese Labor Government has announced the opening of a new ‘Home Affairs Office’ in Dhaka.

Australian Minister for Home Affairs, Tony Burke, MP, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, stating, "This was raised during my recent visit to Bangladesh, and I’m pleased we’ve worked with the interim government to make it happen."

The new office aims to strengthen both countries' commitment to promoting safe, regular migration and combating irregular migration and people smuggling, according to the Australian Ministry.

Australian Visa Center to Open in Dhaka by March End

The office will enhance access to visa information for Bangladeshis considering lawful migration to Australia. It will also act as a key point of contact for the Bangladeshi government, facilitating cooperation on immigration and border issues.

Australia reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with Bangladesh, viewing the country as an important partner in the Indian Ocean region, with shared interests in ensuring regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

The Australian government also expressed gratitude to Bangladesh’s interim government for its ongoing collaboration in combating people smuggling and promoting secure migration pathways.
