The victims were identified as Mohammad Abdullah and Md. Manik, both residents of Hathazari. The attack occurred at around 2:45 a.m. near the Bakalia Access Road entrance, under the jurisdiction of Chawkbazar Police Station.
Ikhtiyar Uddin, the officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station, stated that three assailants, riding a motorcycle, stopped the private vehicle before opening fire on its occupants. The attack left three people inside the car with gunshot wounds.
Quick-thinking local residents came to the victims' aid and rushed them to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced two of them dead. The third victim, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, but the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. However, one of the six individuals in the car told authorities that the attack might be connected to the recent arrest of notorious Chattogram terrorist, Chhoto Sajjad, at the Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka. According to this source, the shooting could be a retaliatory act in response to the arrest.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
