In a statement issued Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the people of Bangladesh and expressed the United States' support for the country's bright and democratic future. "We look forward to continuing our partnership to promote economic development and regional security in the Indo-Pacific," Rubio said.
Secretary Rubio highlighted that Bangladesh's Independence Day marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s history, with the interim government preparing for elections that will chart the nation’s future path.
"On this special occasion, we extend our warmest congratulations to the people of Bangladesh," Rubio added, emphasizing the shared goals of the two nations.
In a message earlier, Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus also reflected on the significance of the day. He noted that Bangladesh’s independence was the culmination of a long struggle to protect its dignity and rights. "The bloody War of Independence, through which Bangladesh emerged as an independent nation, officially began on this day," he said.
Dr. Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs who gave their lives for the country’s freedom, and extended his heartfelt greetings to Bangladeshis both at home and abroad.
He assured the nation that the interim government remains fully committed to further strengthening Bangladesh and delivering the full benefits of independence. "We are focused on ensuring good governance, justice, and sustainable development, with transparency and accountability through reforms in all sectors," he said.
On this historic day, Dr. Yunus called on all Bangladeshis to reaffirm their commitment to the country’s development, peace, and prosperity, inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War.
