Bangladesh and the United Kingdom (UK) have exchanged views on the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women and children, opportunities for collaboration in climate-related technology, and the need to translate global climate commitments into practical action.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam met with Rachel Kyte, the UK’s Special Representative for Climate, in London on Thursday to discuss these issues.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, was also present at the meeting.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate change, particularly in climate adaptation and resilience, access to climate finance, the transition to renewable energy, carbon markets, and investment opportunities in the green and blue economies.

The state minister highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen climate resilience, promote renewable energy and encourage community participation in climate action.

The meeting also covered priorities for the upcoming COP31, with particular emphasis on climate finance, adaptation and enhanced international cooperation to address shared climate challenges.
