UN: Bangladesh urges stronger global anti-terror cooperation
Bangladesh has called for enhanced international cooperation to counter the evolving threat of terrorism, warning that terrorist groups are increasingly exploiting artificial intelligence, encrypted communications, virtual assets and other digital technologies.
Addressing the UN General Assembly debate on the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy on July 1, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury reaffirmed the country’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and violent extremism in all forms and manifestations.
The Ambassador highlighted Bangladesh’s comprehensive legal and institutional framework to combat terrorism and the financing of terrorism.
He noted that the country’s efforts are supported by close coordination among law enforcement agencies.
Ambassador Chowdhury stressed that counter-terrorism measures must remain firmly grounded in the rule of law and respect for human rights, reports UNB.
He also called for stronger international action to address the root causes of terrorism and combating Islamophobia and hate speech.
