The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned five Bangladeshi nationals to Bangladesh on Saturday after they were detained for attempting to cross the border without valid documentation. The handover took place at the Dahagram border in the Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.
Subedar Ayub Hossain, commander of the Panbari camp of the 51 BGB Battalion in Rangpur, confirmed that the individuals were handed over to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) following a flag meeting between the border forces of the two countries.
The group included three members of the third-gender community: 25-year-old Ferdous Farhad, 25-year-old Roshni, and 25-year-old Hridoy Hasan Sarwar Nurjahan, all residents of Mirpur, Dhaka. The other two individuals were Ahmad Ali, 50, son of Adam Ali, and Amina Bibi, 40, wife of Adam Ali, both from Phulbari in Kurigram district.
According to sources, the five individuals were detained by a BSF patrol team on Friday afternoon after they attempted to illegally re-enter Bangladesh through the Angorpota border post, which falls under the jurisdiction of the 51 BGB Battalion in Rangpur.
Following the detention, a flag meeting was convened on Friday at the Tin Bigha Corridor’s zero line between the company commanders of BGB and BSF. After discussions, the BSF agreed to hand over the detained Bangladeshis.
The incident underscores the ongoing cooperation between the two border forces in resolving such issues and ensuring the safe and lawful movement of people across borders.
