Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian sarees worth over Tk 2.59 crore during a special operation along the Brahmanbaria–Akhaura border.

The drive was conducted on Saturday by a patrol team from Akhaura Border Outpost (BOP) under Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), following intelligence inputs.

The raid took place in the Devgram area of Akhaura Upazila.

During the operation, BGB personnel recovered a total of 2,761 pieces of Indian sarees. Officials estimated the total value of the seized goods at Tk 2,59,77,000.

The confiscated sarees are currently being processed for handover to the concerned customs authorities through proper legal procedures.

Speaking on the matter, Sultanpur Battalion Commander Lt. Col. SM Shariful Islam reaffirmed BGB’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders and preventing smuggling.

He emphasized that enhanced intelligence surveillance and operational activities are being maintained to ensure border security.

Islam also expressed confidence that such drive will continue in the future as part of BGB’s ongoing efforts to uphold law enforcement and national security along the borders, reports BSS.
