The government plans to introduce the ‘Family Card’ on a pilot basis ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat, Mintoo said the pilot programme is intended to start before Eid, following instructions from the Prime Minister.

The minister added that the Family Card was highlighted in the ruling party’s election manifesto, and the meeting focused on ways to implement it effectively.

On the rollout, Mintoo said the programme aims to be universal. “A committee has been formed. It may begin with the ultra-poor, then expand to the poor, and later include the middle class in phases,” he explained.
