Professor Muhammad Yunus, the former Chief Adviser of the interim government, has returned his diplomatic (red) passport.
He handed it over about a week before leaving office. Several other advisers and individuals with adviser-level status have also surrendered their diplomatic passports, though a few, including Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, have yet to do so.
Officials from the Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs ministries confirmed that around 20 people, including advisers and adviser-level officials, have returned their passports ahead of the election.
Professor Yunus led the interim government formed after the fall of the Awami League administration in August 2024. After about one and a half years in office, his administration transferred power to an elected government following the 12 February parliamentary elections.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won a landslide victory and formed a new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who appointed a cabinet of 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers.
