An imam and a tractor driver were killed and three others injured in two separate road accidents in Sadar and Bahubal upazilas of the district on Friday.

Hafez Qari Selim Ahmed, an imam and a passenger of a tom-tom (locally made vehicle), was critically injured in a road accident that occurred around 8.30 am on the Habiganj-Lakhai road in the Richi area, where a pickup truck collided head-on with the tom-tom.

Eyewitnesses said four people were seriously injured at the scene. Local residents rushed them to Habiganj Sadar Hospital where Hafez Qari succumbed to his injuries.

Habiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain confirmed the incident.

In another incident on the same day at around 10:00 am, a tractor overturned while crossing the Mirpur-Mahasoyer Bazar railway line in Bahubal upazila. The accident claimed the life of the tractor driver, Abid Ali, a resident of Golgaon village in Chunarughat upazila, reports BSS.

Locals rescued Abid Ali after the accident, but he was found dead at the scene, police said.

Authorities are investigating both incidents, the sources added.
