Palestinians mourn their relatives who were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, Sunday, May 11, 2025.

Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip overnight and into Sunday killed at least 11 people, most of them women and children, according to local health officials.

Two strikes in the southern city of Khan Younis hit tents, each killing two children along with their parents. Other attacks reportedly killed a man on a bicycle and a child, said Nasser Hospital, which received the bodies. In northern Gaza, a separate strike killed a 16-year-old boy, according to the Indonesian Hospital.

The Israeli military has not issued a statement regarding the latest incidents but maintains that it targets only militants and takes measures to avoid civilian casualties. It accuses Hamas of operating from within civilian areas, increasing the risk of harm to non-combatants.

Gaza remains sealed off from vital supplies — including food, medicine, and emergency aid — for over ten weeks. Israel says the blockade is intended to pressure Hamas to release remaining hostages. Aid groups, however, warn that food shortages and hunger have become severe.

The war resumed in March after a ceasefire collapsed. That truce had enabled the release of more than 30 hostages. Currently, 59 hostages remain in Gaza, with around one-third believed to be alive.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants launched an attack on southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

Since then, Israel’s offensive has killed more than 52,800 Palestinians — many of them women and children — according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The fighting has devastated large parts of the territory and displaced nearly 90% of its two million residents.
