The inaugural World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) will be held from May 1 to 4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India, aiming to strengthen global connections in the entertainment industry.

A press briefing hosted by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre on Wednesday outlined the event's key highlights. Ann Mary George, First Secretary (Culture) at the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, emphasized that WAVES seeks to unite global leaders from the Media and Entertainment (M&E) sectors, including TV, radio, news media, music, advertising, animation, gaming, social media, film, OTT platforms, and artificial intelligence.

The summit will feature a range of activities including a Global Media Dialogue for ministers and policymakers, a Roundtable for M&E CEOs, the WAVES Awards to honor top M&E industry achievements, 22 international challenges, masterclasses, workshops, and cultural performances. It will also showcase media startups and feature an exhibition and an e-marketplace, WAVES Bazaar, designed for the M&E industry.

George highlighted that the Bharat Pavilion & Exhibition will showcase India's dynamic media landscape, while WAVES Bazaar will serve as a revolutionary platform for the global M&E sector. A Prime Minister-Level Roundtable for policymakers and government representatives from various countries will add further significance to the event.

The summit will also host regional sessions with artists, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss opportunities, challenges, and the future of the sector. Prior to the briefing, journalists were given a tour of the "Journey of Indian Cinema" exhibition, which celebrates India's cinematic history.

Earlier, on February 23, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka marked 111 years of Indian Cinema with a soft launch of the WAVES Summit, an exhibition, and a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary The Elephant Whisperers. Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma noted that WAVES serves as an enabling platform for collaboration, innovation, and artistic excellence in the M&E industry.

Interested participants can register for the event via the official WAVES website.
