Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and its surrounding regions overnight, just hours before pivotal peace talks between the United States and Ukraine.

The assault resulted in at least one fatality—a 38-year-old car park security guard—adding to the growing tension between the two nations. BBC’s Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg noted that this could be Ukraine’s most significant drone strike on Moscow to date.

What to Expect Ahead of the Peace Talks in Saudi Arabia

Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, confirmed that air defenses intercepted 73 drones aimed at the city, while four major airports were temporarily shut down as a precaution.

This attack comes just ahead of high-stakes negotiations in Saudi Arabia, where US and Ukrainian officials are set to discuss a potential resolution to the ongoing conflict. Additionally, a military summit will take place in Paris, bringing together leaders from around 30 countries to explore the creation of a “coalition of the willing” to address the war's global implications.
