Eid-ul-Azha jamaats held across Bangladesh amid religious fervour

Dhaka, June 7  – Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims, has been celebrated across Bangladesh Saturday with due religious solemnity, prayers, and sacrifice.

Thousands of Muslims gathered at mosques and Eidgahs throughout the country to offer Eid prayers. Major congregations saw overwhelming turnouts, reflecting the spirit of unity and devotion that marks the occasion.

In Bagerhat, the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation was held at the historic ‘Shat Gambuj’ Mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at 7am.

The first prayer session was followed by a second at 8am, and a third and final congregation thereafter.

Sylhet saw its central Eid congregation at the historic Shahi Eidgah Maidan at 8am. Additionally, a total of 390 congregations were held within Sylhet city — 142 in open spaces and 248 inside mosques. Across the entire district, 2,551 Eid congregations were organised, according to the district administration and metropolitan police.

In Barishal, the main Eid prayer was held at the Henaet Uddin Central Eidgah Maidan at 7:30am. The congregation was attended by leaders of various political, social, and cultural organisations, who joined the prayers in a spirit of community and celebration.

In the hill district of Khagrachhari, Muslims observed Eid-ul-Azha with religious fervour. The district’s main congregation was held at 8am at the Khagrachhari Central Eidgah Maidan.

Throughout the country, the day was marked with acts of sacrifice, family gatherings, and distribution of meat among the poor, in keeping with the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha.

Devotees from various parts of the country attended the prayers. To ensure the safety and security of the attendees, tight security measures were in place, with police, Tourist Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), army personnel, and mosque security staff deployed around the premises. - UNB
