Hail storm in Sylhet
Sylhet suffered extensive damage due to sudden hailstorm on Thursday evening. The upazila administration said that more than 500 houses were damaged in unseasonal Kalboishakhi in Baralekha of Moulvibazar on the same night.
The first hailstorm of the season occurred at the end of the Bangla month of Falgun along with storms. There were reports of extensive damage to house tin and crops. Especially, there is a high risk of damage to paddy, vegetables and other seasonal crops.
The storm had been blowing since Thursday evening, accompanied by lightning. Along with the rain, hailstorm suddenly started at around 8 pm. Pedestrians suffered due to hailstorm. The roads immediately became deserted. People rushed to safe shelters. The amount of hailstorm was high in various upazilas including Sylhet city, especially in Jaintapur, Fenchuganj, Kanaighat, Gowainghat and Golapganj. Hailstorms continued for about 30 minutes in Jaintapur upazila. Roads were covered with large hails. The hailstorm caused holes in the tin roofs of many houses in these upazilas. As a result, when it rained several times at night, water entered their houses and soaked their furniture. Local farmers are also worried about crop damage.
