Soil trader killed in Gazipur, another injured

Gazipur, Mar 21 -A soil trader was killed and another injured in an attack allegedly by robbers on Boroibari-Haturia Chala regional road in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Thursday night, said police.

The deceased, Sajeeb Hossain, 38, hailing from Gavchala village under Boali union of the upazila, was involved in the soil supply business to brick kilns.

The injured Royal Mia was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Locals said a gang of robbers intercepted the duo boarding a motorbike on their way to local Chala Bazar in Haturia Chala area around 9pm.

The robbers attacked them with sharp weapons when the pair tried to flee leaving the motorbike. The attack left Sajeeb killed on the spot and Royal injured.

Hearing screams of the victims, locals came out of the houses and caught two robbers red-handed and beat them up, they said.

Later, the accused were handed over to police.

Kaliakair police station’s Officer-in-Charge Riyad Mahmud said the body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
