A Brazil fan was found dead at his home in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on Monday morning after watching the FIFA World Cup match between Brazil and Norway the previous night.

The deceased, Ratan, son of Hossain Mistri of Poschim Gotria village under Koya union, worked as a mason's assistant. He is survived by his two-month-old daughter.

According to family members and police, Ratan watched the Brazil-Norway World Cup match late Sunday night before going to sleep in his room.

When he did not wake up the following morning, family members looked through a window and found him hanging with a scarf around his neck. They broke open the door and rushed him to a hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Ratan's father, Hossain Mistri, said his son was a Brazil supporter and appeared upset after the team's defeat. However, he said he could not confirm whether the loss had any connection with the death or if there was another reason.

Jamal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station, said it is too early to conclude that the death was linked to Brazil's defeat, noting that the cause remains unconfirmed, reports UNB.

He said the family and local residents requested that the body be released without an autopsy. As no one raised any objection over the death, police handed over the body after completing the required legal formalities without conducting a post-mortem examination.
