Efforts for Safe Eid Journey to Continue: Transport Secy
Senior Secretary of the Road Transport Ministry, Md Ehsanul Haque, confirmed today that efforts to ensure a safe and smooth Eid journey this year will continue.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the Sayedabad and Gabtoli inter-district bus terminals, Haque emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining a safe travel experience for homebound passengers during Eid.
“We’ve held several meetings with senior officials from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), the police, and representatives from transport owners and workers to ensure a safe journey for passengers,” Haque said.
He highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to combat extortion, theft, muggings, and the illegal charging of extra fares during Eid-ul-Fitr, assuring that these measures would also be in place during the return journey after Eid.
In response to a query, Haque mentioned that the BRTA has set up booths at all bus terminals. Additionally, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police are working around the clock to prevent fare hikes.
“We will take immediate action against anyone found guilty of overcharging passengers,” he added.
The Transport Secretary also urged the public to cooperate in ensuring the safety and security of travelers during the festive period.
Among those present during the visit were BRTA Chairman Md Yasin, senior police officials, and representatives from transport owners and workers.
