The victim, identified as Minara, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road near Banani Chairman Bari around 6 a.m. The news of her death quickly spread, prompting workers from nearby garment factories to take to the streets in protest. They blocked the main road, severely disrupting traffic along Airport Road and the Elevated Expressway.
The blockade led to severe traffic congestion, with office-goers facing significant delays. Many commuters were forced to abandon buses and continue their journeys on foot due to the gridlock.
After nearly seven hours of disruption, the protest ended around 1:30 p.m., following assurances from the police. Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russell Sarwar confirmed the withdrawal of the blockade, helping restore order to the busy area.
