The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has raised the price of gold once again, with a significant increase of Tk 5,972 per bhori for 22-carat gold, just a day after a previous hike.

Effective Wednesday, the price of 22-carat gold has reached a record high of Tk 1,74,948 per bhori (11.664 grams). This marks a total increase of Tk 8,282 in just two days, following a Tk 2,310 rise on Monday.

Despite not formally importing gold, Bajus justifies the hikes by citing rising global market rates. However, the lack of government regulation has sparked criticism.

Consumers, especially those buying for weddings and festivals, have expressed frustration over the constant price fluctuations. Many allege that Bajus, which holds a dominant position in the local gold market, is manipulating prices without accountability.

This marks the 29th gold price adjustment of the year, with 21 increases and only eight reductions. In 2024 alone, gold prices have been adjusted 62 times, 35 of which were increases.

The updated gold prices announced by Bajus are as follows:

  • 22 Carat: Tk 1,74,948 per bhori

  • 21 Carat: Tk 1,67,005 per bhori

  • 18 Carat: Tk 1,43,104 per bhori

  • Traditional Method: Tk 1,18,459 per bhori
