Security Forces on High Alert to Maintain CHT Stability

Members of the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, Ansar and other law enforcement agencies are working in close coordination to maintain peace, public safety and stability across the three districts of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT).

Security personnel remain on high alert to maintain law and order and respond quickly to any emerging situation.

During a recent visit to different parts of the CHT, local residents said the region has remained largely peaceful due to coordinated efforts by the security forces and civil administration.

They said the army, BGB, police, Ansar and intelligence agencies are working to prevent sabotage and other subversive activities in the region.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Md Anwar Sadat said security forces are fully prepared to respond to any situation.

"The Bangladesh Army, Police, BGB and other relevant agencies are working in close coordination to maintain law and order," he said.

He said the district administration regularly holds meetings with representatives of different ethnic communities to strengthen communal harmony.

The deputy commissioner alleged that some extremist groups occasionally attempt to destabilise the region by spreading misinformation, but said law enforcement agencies have been effectively countering such efforts.

Officials said security measures have been strengthened in Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari ahead of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples on August 9, with the aim of preventing untoward incidents and ensuring public safety.

Local residents said armed clashes occasionally occur among regional groups over territorial dominance, disrupting normal life and sometimes causing civilian casualties.

They said intensified surveillance and joint operations by law enforcement agencies have helped keep such incidents under control.

Khagrachhari Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said the army, police, BGB and other agencies are maintaining close coordination to uphold law and order.

Describing Khagrachhari as a major tourist destination, he said security has been reinforced across the district to ensure the safety of visitors.

"The district police are conducting regular cyber patrols, while joint operations are being carried out whenever necessary. No extremist or terrorist activities or acts of provocation will be tolerated here," he said.

Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura said the army, BGB, police, Ansar and other agencies have been working sincerely to preserve peace and harmony in the hill region.

She said law enforcement agencies have also been preventing attempts to create division or conflict between ethnic communities and Bengali residents.

"We believe in peaceful coexistence. Everyone must work together to protect harmony and stability in the hills," she added.
