Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said the government is committed to ensuring the highest level of media freedom in the country.

“Taking into account the views of journalists and all stakeholders, we will clearly define the scope of accountability while guaranteeing maximum media freedom to ensure the free flow of information,” he said.

The minister made the remarks on Friday morning while speaking to reporters after a meeting at the Barishal Circuit House.

He acknowledged that Bangladesh has yet to fully integrate into the modern, technology-driven global media landscape.

“We aim to bring the entire media management system under a modern framework. When the Information Ministry was first established, technology-based media did not exist. Despite the rapid expansion of digital and online platforms, we have not adapted as required,” he added.

Replying to another question, Swapan said he was not yet fully aware of the reasons behind the reported misunderstanding and tensions between judges and lawyers at the Barishal court.
