Youth held for alleged fraud posing as journalist in Dhaka

A young man was caught red-handed by members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Traffic Wari Division on allegation of collecting money from rickshaw pullers by falsely identifying himself as a journalist in the capital's Jatrabari area.


The detainee is Md. Sajib Pathan Samrat, 28.

Traffic police officers on duty at Jatrabari intersection on Wednesday received information that a man was extorting money from rickshaw pullers under various pretexts while claiming to be a journalist of a newspaper and later detained him, said Niaz Mehdi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

.During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the detainee had obtained a journalist identity card from another individual and used it to falsely present himself as a journalist, reports UNB.

The detainee has been handed over to Jatrabari Police Station for further legal action.
