Four members of a family, who were allegedly pushed into Bangladesh by Indian Border Security Force(BSF), have been detained near Bontara border in Dinajpur Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

Local residents detained them and handed them over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the morning.

According to local sources, the family was found around 6:00 am in Duapara area under Shankarpur Union of Dinajpur Sadar, approximately 4.5 kilometres inside the border.

The family claimed to be Bangladeshi citizens and showed photocopies of their national identity cards, locals said.

Locals suspect the family may have entered Bangladesh illegally and stayed in different locations with the help of brokers.

Lt Col Arifu Uz Zaman Arif, commanding officer of BGB-29 Battalion, said authorities have not yet been able to confirm when, where or through which border point the four entered Bangladesh, reports UNB.

“We have not been able to ascertain when, how or through which border they entered the country. It appears they stayed in different places with the help of brokers before being found this morning,” he said.

BGB is verifying their identities, he added.
