Addressing a rally in Naogaon district town as part of his election campaign in the northern region, he urged voters to stay alert to protect ballot boxes and prevent past irregularities. “People must ensure that empty ballot boxes are not shown as full, as happened before,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said BNP had no intention of fleeing the country, adding that the party had survived 17 years of repression by standing with the people. He called on voters to support the party’s ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol.
He said people’s lives had not improved over the past 16 years and alleged that mega projects had turned into mega corruption. Pledging rural development, he said BNP would prioritise farmers, expand cold storage facilities, improve rail transport, and raise interest waivers on agricultural loans to Tk 10,000.
He also promised support for women’s healthcare, rural medical services, youth skill development, sports training, IT sector growth, and job creation.
The rally was chaired by Naogaon district BNP President Abu Bakkar Siddique Nannu, with central and local party leaders in attendance.
