BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has accused a defeated group of attempting to rewrite Bangladesh’s Liberation War history to serve political interests.

Speaking virtually at a Victory Day discussion at the Institution of Engineers in Dhaka, Tarique said those who once distorted the independence narrative have lost political relevance, allowing “defeated forces of the Liberation War” to push a revised version of history.

He also alleged that anti-Bangladesh elements are trying to obstruct the national election through various tactics. “Although the Election Commission has announced the schedule after more than a decade and a half, conspiracies have not stopped,” he said, urging citizens to remain vigilant.

Referring to the gun attack on Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi, Tarique described it as part of a broader anti-democracy conspiracy. He questioned who would benefit if the interim government were undermined, elections delayed, or a people’s government blocked, asserting that the attackers represent enemies of democracy.

Tarique expressed confidence that intimidation efforts would fail, saying, “History has shown that when people are united, no force can stop victory.” He described the upcoming election as crucial, carrying the hopes of current and future generations, and vital for safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty.

Highlighting the BNP’s mission, he said the party aims to mobilise women, youth, farmers, and workers to “organise the country’s victory.” Tarique also warned that domestic and foreign forces that previously sought to undermine the Liberation War remain active, noting that while their appearance may have changed, their intentions have not.
