The July Uprising had erupted from years of anger over enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, politicised policing, and a climate of fear.
The government has introduced special security measures for prominent political figures, particularly leaders who played key roles in the July Mass Uprising.
In a statement issued on December 14, the interim government said comprehensive security guidelines are also being prepared for all political parties. The protocols will clearly define safety arrangements for political leaders and prospective candidates, covering protection at residences and offices, during travel, public gatherings, and online activities.
Meanwhile, police said they have identified the attackers and associates involved in the recent gun attack on Inquilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman bin Hadi. Operations are underway to arrest the suspects.
The motorcycle used in the attack has been seized, and forensic examinations, including fingerprint analysis, are in progress. To prevent the prime suspect from fleeing the country, photographs and relevant information have been circulated to all immigration checkpoints.
Security patrols by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have been intensified along border areas. Although suspects’ locations have been traced several times within the country, arrests have been delayed due to their frequent movement, the statement said.
Police have also reviewed the travel history of the main suspect, revealing multiple overseas trips in recent years as an IT businessman, including a visit to Singapore on July 21. Several other individuals suspected of involvement in the attack have been placed under surveillance as the investigation continues.
