BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today urged all political parties not to deviate from the constitutional process and emphasized the need to build a solid foundation so that no one can later question the interim government and the July National Charter.

"We must not, by any means, go outside the legal or constitutional process. We have to guide the nation through a proper and systematic course," he said.

Salahuddin made the remarks while speaking at a discussion marking the fourth founding anniversary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in the city's Kakrail area.

Emphasizing the constitutional basis of the current state structure, he said, "Many people, out of emotion, suggest that revolutionary orders could be issued in line with the will of the people expressed in the July Uprising. This is an emotional statement because we all took refuge in the Constitution to implement the people's will, and the interim government was formed constitutionally. Until now, we are operating this state legally and constitutionally."

Calling for a pragmatic approach, the BNP leader said, "We must speak based on reality and should not propose anything that could cause our initiatives or orders to be questioned in the future. Moreover, no one should be able to declare this entire process illegal later on. I'm not saying this just for today - we must establish a foundation now so that no one can challenge this issue in court even 10 or 15 years from now."

In his speech, Salahuddin also highlighted the history of the Gono Odhikar Parishad's struggle and movement.

Regarding the NCP's signing of the July National Charter, he said, "Through our collective efforts, we formulated the July Charter, and most political parties have signed it. However, the NCP and one or two other parties have not yet been able to sign due to some specific demands. Discussions are underway regarding those demands, and it is hoped that a proper resolution will soon be reached, allowing them to sign as well."

Urging that fascism must never be allowed to return to Bangladesh, he said, "We want to maintain the same unity that led to our victory in the democratic movement against fascism - the movement that caused the downfall of fascism and forced the fascist Sheikh Hasina to flee the country. The anti-fascist national unity will remain our only strength to move forward. If that unity is compromised for any reason, it will only pave the way for the return of fascism."

Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur presided over the discussion, while General Secretary Md Rashed Khan and leaders and activists from various units of the party attended the event.

Vice-President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad Faruk Hasan moderated the discussion. Several leaders from different political parties also spoke on the occasion, reports BSS.
