4 sentenced to death for 2016 rape in Barishal

A Barishal tribunal on Sunday convicted four people and sentenced them to death for violating an 18-year-old girl in 2016.


Judge of Barishal Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Md Rakibul Islam handed down the punishment.

The condemned convicts are—Russel Gazi, Rajib Jomaddar, Md Zahid and Khokon Khan of Barishal city. Among them, Khokon tried in absentia.

The court also fined Tk one lakh each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts kept the girl hostage when she was going to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital with Tk one lakh by an auto-rickshaw on November 10, 2016.

When the girl screamed for help, they beat her up mercilessly.

Later, the convicts took the girl to Christian Para in Trish Godown area of the city and violated her in turns, reports UNB. 

The girl was admitted to the hospital on the following day.

A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station.

Police submitted chargesheet against four people on November 23, 2017.
