BNP standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has said any conspiracy against the party will be overcome through the unity of the people.

"No matter what conspiracies are hatched, the conspirators will not succeed. The people will prevail, and the victory of the Sheaf of Paddy (Dhaner Shish) will be ensured through our collective unity," Dr Zahid said.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with local businessmen, workers, and women at Ghoraghat municipality town on Sunday night.

Dr Zahid said BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman did not flee after proclaiming the country's independence, but instead fought with arms. "Those who criticize today should first examine whether they have any history or legacy of sacrifice for the country," he said.

"There will be no compromise on the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh," Dr Zahid added. "Our leader never made such compromises, and neither will we."

The senior BNP leader alleged certain quarters are attempting to create obstacles to influence the upcoming national election, scheduled for February next year. However, he said, "No one but the Almighty can stop the election. This election must take place -- it is the expectation of the people, and there is no alternative."

The meeting was also attended by Poura BNP President Abdus Sattar Milon, General Secretary Muktar Hossain, Organizing Secretary Al Mamun, Poura Jubo Dal Member Secretary Sajib Kabir, Poura Swechasebak Dal Convener Golam Rabbani, and other leaders of BNP and its associate bodies, reports BSS.
