The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded immediate action against officials who failed to provide security to its delegation, following the harassment of member secretary Akhter Hossain and others at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.

Speaking at an emergency press conference at the NCP central office in Bangla Motor, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon, party convener Nahid Islam strongly condemned the incident. He called on the government to identify the officials responsible and ensure they face strict punishment for their negligence.

“This type of security failure is unacceptable and tarnishes the image of our country,” Nahid Islam said. “We demand accountability and strong measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The incident occurred when Professor Muhammad Yunus, the party’s chief advisor, travelled to the United States to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The delegation included Akhter Hossain, Joint Convener Tasnim Jara, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and other senior members. On Monday afternoon local time, they arrived at JFK Airport, where the delegation faced harassment, including eggs being thrown at Akhter Hossain.

The NCP leaders said such incidents not only endanger the lives of party officials but also undermine the respect and dignity of Bangladeshis abroad. They urged authorities to review and improve security arrangements for political delegations during overseas visits and warned that any further lapses would be met with stern protests.

The party also appealed to the international community and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries, stressing that protection of officials during international travel is a basic responsibility of the host and home governments alike.
