BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said on Thursday that both the government and other political parties have realised that BNP would come to power if elections are held.

"That is why they do not want to hold elections. When they talk about elections, they have heart burning," he said during the BNP membership form distribution and membership renewal inauguration ceremony at the Cumilla District Shilpakala Academy.

He also said that the freedom for which Ziaur Rahman sacrificed his life, Khaleda Zia's life is now under threat, and Tarique Rahman in exile abroad indicates that democracy is also under threat.

He mentioned that earlier, "we faced dogs, but now it feels like we are facing tigers."

"We will have to get our due account by holding elections,"  added the BNP leader.

The programme was presided over by BNP Central Committee Cumilla Divisional Organising Secretary Principal Md. Selim Bhuiyan.

BNP Chairperson's Advisor Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, Cumilla Divisional Co-Organising Secretary Mostaq Mia, Comilla South District BNP President Zakaria Taher Suman, Metropolitan BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu, South District BNP Member Secretary Ashikur Rahman Mahmud Wasim and others spoke at the event, reports UNB.
