The body of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who died at a hospital in Singapore on Thursday, arrived in Dhaka on Friday evening.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:48 pm, officials said. The aircraft had departed Singapore’s Changi International Airport at 2:03 pm Bangladesh time.
Security measures were tightened at the airport to prevent any untoward incident.
According to a post on Inqilab Moncho’s official social media page, the body will be taken to the central mosque of Dhaka University following its arrival.
The organisation urged supporters to pay tribute to Hadi—described as a “fearless hero who sacrificed his life to protect justice, freedom and sovereignty”—by maintaining discipline along both sides of the road from the airport to Shahbagh.
Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 while travelling in a rickshaw on Culvert Road in Puratan Paltan. He initially underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later admitted to a private hospital in the capital. He was subsequently airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he passed away on the night of December 18.
