Speaking at the event, Fakhrul reflected on the current political landscape, noting that Bangladesh is going through a period of significant challenges. He reminded attendees, "We are experiencing a difficult moment in our history. As you all know, an interim government was formed following a historic student uprising that overthrew a fascist regime. Now, the people of this nation are awaiting the formation of a new democratic government."
The BNP leader urged party members and supporters to remain vigilant and responsible in their actions. "We must ensure that every step we take is aligned with our collective goal of a democratic transition. Particularly those of us in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party must act with caution, to avoid any missteps that could divert us from our path," he said.
Fakhrul emphasized that it is the duty of all political actors and those engaged with the people to work diligently towards facilitating this transition. "We must engage in responsible dialogue and action that will create a clear path to democracy," he stated.
Addressing the need for reform, Fakhrul underscored the deteriorating state of the country’s political system. "It is evident that our state system is in crisis, a direct result of the lack of reforms. Two years ago, we presented a 31-point reform program to the people, which we believe is sufficient to guide the nation towards necessary change," he explained.
The BNP Secretary General also spoke about ongoing reform efforts, stating, "The interim government has established a reform commission, and we are in constant contact with them, reviewing their proposals and offering our input."
The event also featured speeches from prominent BNP leaders, including Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salah Uddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Vice Chairperson Shamsuzzaman Dudu, and Advisor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner.
Among the distinguished professionals who attended the Iftar were Editor of Jai Jai Din Shafik Rehman, President of the National Press Club and Editor of Kaler Kantho Poet Hasan Hafiz, renowned economist Mahbub Ullah, Jugantor Editor Poet Abdul Hai Sikder, senior journalists M Aziz and Abdal Ahmed, as well as actor Ilias Kanchan.
