Chief Adviser Opens Cub Carnival, Shapla Award Ceremony
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today urged young Scouts to move forward in building a better future world by applying the values and experiences gained through Scouting.
He made the call while inaugurating the nationwide Cub Carnival and presenting the prestigious Shapla Cub Awards at a ceremony organised by Bangladesh Scouts at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Terming it a landmark occasion, Prof Yunus said, “Today is a proud day not only for Scouting in Bangladesh, but for the global Scouting community. A new chapter of history has been written by eight brave Scouts who laid down their lives for the country and its people.”
He added, “There is no such example in the history of world Scouting. On behalf of the global community, I congratulate Bangladesh Scouts for this exceptional legacy.”
Congratulating the award recipients, Prof Yunus reminded them of their responsibilities: “Never dwell in regret over closed doors. As Scouts, it’s your duty to open those doors for others. You’ve come a long way, and it's now your turn to lead others forward.”
Reflecting on his own Scouting journey, the Chief Adviser said he proudly remains a lifelong member of the Scout family. He recalled attending the 10th World Boy Scout Jamboree in Canada in 1955 at the age of 15, which also gave him a chance to travel across Europe and North America.
“It was a powerful experience that allowed me to discover both the world and myself,” he said. “Such opportunities are rare in busy lives. You must remember—your Scouting experience equips you to create the world of the future.”
Funded by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Cub Carnival is being held simultaneously in 527 locations across the country, including all 495 upazilas, five metropolitan areas, five sub-areas, and 22 special scout districts. The event is managed by the Bangladesh Scouts Programme Department.
At today’s event, the Chief Adviser also presented the highest honour of Cub Scouts—the “Shapla Cub Award”—along with the Gallantry Award to the families of eight Scouts who were martyred in the July uprising for their courage and sacrifice.
The family members of Scout Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughda, Rover Rohan Ahmed Khan, Rover Tanjir Khan Munna, Scout Sharif Uddin Ahmed Ahnaf, Scout Mahbub Alam, Scout Golam Nafiz, Scout Tahir Zaman Priyo, and Scout Ariful Islam Saad received the awards from Prof Yunus.
