Dr. Hossain highlighted the exceptional communal harmony present in Bangladesh, where people from diverse religious backgrounds coexist peacefully. “Our nation continues to exemplify the spirit of unity among different religious communities, showcasing an enduring commitment to harmony,” he stated.
The workshop, aimed at promoting an inclusive society and strengthening religious harmony, was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University (DU). It was organized collaboratively by the Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre of DU, the US-based Multi-faith Neighbours Network, and the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought.
Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, was a special guest at the event’s closing ceremony. In his speech, Prof. Ahmed urged participants to eliminate discrimination and division, stressing that such efforts must start from individual actions and extend to the wider community.
The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Md Elias, Convener of the Organizing Committee and Director of the Inter-Religion and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Centre. Distinguished speakers included Prof. Dr. Nakib Ahmed Nasrullah, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University, Prof. Dr. Md Abu Sayem, Chairman of the World Religion and Culture department at DU, Dr. Sukumol Barua, Supernumerary Professor of Pali and Buddhist Studies at DU, Dr. Anisuzzaman, former professor of the Philosophy Department at DU, and Adv. AKM Mujibur Rahman, senior lawyer at the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
Throughout the event, participants, including teachers, researchers, students, religious leaders, and representatives from various organizations, engaged in discussions on building a more inclusive and harmonious society. Prof. Mamun Ahmed urged everyone to take a proactive role in nurturing social unity, noting that individual efforts are essential to strengthening the existing spirit of unity and cooperation in Bangladesh.
