Govt committed to building skilled youth: Aminul

He was speaking as the chief guest at a day-long special workshop titled "Formulation of an action plan for the Department of Youth Development to implement the election manifesto" held at the National Institute of Youth Development in Savar.

The State Minister said that the government is committed to building a skilled youth workforce and urged all concerned to perform their responsibilities with honesty.

He directed participants to submit their key recommendations from the workshop in writing to the office of the director general of the Department of Youth Development within seven days, saying meetings would be held every four months to review progress.

Aminul said the government is modernising the training system to equip young people with skills suited to changing demands.

The Department of Youth Development currently provides training in eighty-three trades, but unsuitable trades would be dropped and new projects introduced; work is underway to expand training courses in freelancing, mobile phone servicing, caregiving and third-language skills to the upazila level, he added.

The ministry is also reviewing a proposal to establish modern training centers in every upazila, Aminul said further. 

The State Minister said a central database of trainees is already being developed to ensure proper assessment and employment opportunities for trained young people, while instructions have been issued to strengthen field-level monitoring of all programmes run by the Department of Youth Development.

Youth and Sports Secretary Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam attended the workshop as a special guest.
