
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman leaves Dhaka for Chandpur to inaugurate canal projects, distribute Family Cards and attend meetings.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka by road on Sunday morning for a daylong visit to Chandpur to attend a series of official and political programmes.
According to Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the premier’s motorcade departed from his Gulshan residence at around 8:45am.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate canal re-excavation projects, attend a Family Card distribution programme and participate in party meetings.
As part of the tour, the prime minister is expected to address a street rally at Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Barura Upazila at around 11:30am.
He will later inaugurate the re-excavation work of the Khordda Canal in the Waruk Bazar area of Tamta Dakshin Union under Shahrasti Upazila.
Another canal re-excavation project, the Bishwa Canal in Kumardugi village under Shah Mahmudpur Union of Chandpur Sadar, is also scheduled to be inaugurated during the visit.
After a brief break at the Chandpur Circuit House, the prime minister will attend a Family Card distribution ceremony at Chandpur Government College ground in the afternoon.
Later in the day, Tarique Rahman, who is also chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, will join an organisational views-exchange meeting of the district BNP leaders at Chandpur Club.
He is expected to return to Dhaka by road in the evening.
This marks Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Chandpur since assuming office as prime minister. His previous visit to the district was in 2004 when he served as senior joint secretary general of the BNP.
