Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the government will recruit 100,000 workers to strengthen primary and preventive healthcare services across the country.
He said expanding preventive healthcare would help reduce the patient burden on major hospitals, including Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting held at CMCH.
Amir Khasru said increasing budget allocations or investment alone would not bring the desired improvement in the health sector. Instead, he stressed the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the healthcare system, accompanied by qualitative reforms.
He urged doctors, teachers and other healthcare professionals to lead changes within their respective fields to improve service delivery.
The minister said the government gives priority to necessity, effectiveness and environmental sustainability while implementing development projects and the same approach would be followed in the health sector.
"The government is ready to provide the required funding. However, it is essential to ensure the proper use of resources and improve the quality of healthcare by following global best practices," he said.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, MP Abu Sufian, Chattogram Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Taslim Uddin and other officials attended the meeting, reports BSS.
