Only the family can play a vital role in preventing relapse

Dhaka, Sunday, 25 May 2025: In today’s world, mental stress, anxiety, and depression have become common issues in people's lives. As a result of depression and anxiety, many individuals are turning to addictive substances, which negatively impacts their families. While various forms of treatment are currently available for addiction recovery, due to a lack of family support and awareness, clients often relapse into their previous conditions.

Speakers highlighted these concerns at a meeting titled “The Role of Family in Preventing Relapse”, organized by Ahsania Mission Female Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center. The event was held today, Sunday (25 May), at 11:00 AM in the conference room of the Health Sector of Dhaka Ahsania Mission in Shyamoli, Dhaka.

Psychologist Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman Selim was present at the event as the chief guest. During his speech, he stated that in order to prevent relapse, family members should stand by the client with love and empathy instead of criticism. If they support the client in maintaining a healthy routine, it can play a significant role in relapse prevention. He further added that the primary responsibility of the family in preventing relapse is to closely observe and identify the warning signs of relapse and to encourage the client to attend follow-up sessions. He also shared detailed insights on relapse prevention with the invited guests during the event.

Also present at the event were Senior Psychologist of Ahsania Mission Female Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Rakhi Ganguly; Center Manager, Ms. Manwara; Assistant Center Manager, Rozina Khatun; Counselor, Mahmuda Alam; Case Manager, Sharifa Khatun; along with other staff members of the center.

It is worth mentioning that Dhaka Ahsania Mission has been making significant contributions to creating a drug-free society and helping individuals dependent on drugs return to a healthy life. As part of this effort, the Ahsania Mission Female Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, located in Shyamoli, has been providing services since 2014 for the recovery of women struggling with addiction, along with supporting their mental health development. – Press release
