Dhaka, May 18 - Several dismissed or expelled former army members staged a protest and gave speeches to various media outlets at the National Press Club premises here making various demands including reinstatement in their jobs, remission of punishment and financial compensation, according to an ISPR release.

A delegation of the Bangladesh Army visited the National Press Club with the aim of finding a peaceful solution and listened to their statements with great patience and sincerity.

The delegation assured to take appropriate steps to verify and resolve the claims as per the prevailing rules and regulations of the army.

At the same time, it was suggested to present the complaints directly to the concerned authorities without sending them to any third party or organization, added the ISPR.

On May 14, 2025, the Army informed that as of now, a total of 802 appeals have been formally received.

Of these, 106 cases have already been forwarded to the relevant authorities for final resolution. The remaining 696 applications are currently undergoing a phased review process.

However, it is unfortunate that some undesirable behaviors have called into question the traditions and values of this disciplined force.

Following two successful meetings, the delegation was returning when a group of unruly former army members, dismissed from service, incited disturbances by obstructing the vehicle's path, throwing bricks and stones at law enforcement officers, and shouting slogans in an incomprehensible language.

Despite the army's efforts to maintain calm with patience and restraint throughout the day, law enforcement officers were eventually compelled to disperse some of the disruptive individuals to restore order.

Any kind of provocative activity, behavior against the public interest, or activities that can tarnish the reputation of the force is never desirable.

The army is considering the matter with utmost patience, compassion, and sensitivity in all cases.

All concerned have been requested to refrain from any negative activities in this regard. - UNB
