The bodies of 34 Bangladeshi expatriate workers who died in Kuwait, Malaysia and Libya were brought back home on Saturday through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Officials said the remains arrived on three separate flights. Of the deceased, 30 bodies were repatriated from Kuwait, while two each came from Malaysia and Libya.

According to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the repatriation process had been delayed for some time due to administrative procedures and ongoing instability in parts of the Middle East.

Airport authorities confirmed that arrangements were made immediately after the arrival of the bodies to ensure smooth handover to the respective families.

The Wage Earners’ Welfare Board provided Tk 35,000 to each bereaved family to help cover burial and transportation expenses. Officials said additional financial assistance and insurance-related claims would be processed in due course.

Senior officials from the airport and representatives of the Welfare Board were present during the formal handover ceremony. Family members of the deceased received the remains amid emotional scenes.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring faster repatriation of expatriate workers’ remains in future and improving coordination with host countries to reduce delays.
