
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Tuesday sentenced seven people, including Awami League( now facing ban on its activities) General Secretary Obaidul Quader, to death in a case over committing crimes against humanity during the July Mass Uprising.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury pronounced the verdict.
The other convicts sentenced to death are Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former state minister for information Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League president Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and its geberal secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and banned Chhatra League’s president Saddam Hossain and general secretary Wali Asif Enan.
All seven convicts are currently absconding.
The other members of the bench are Justice Md Manzurul Bashid and Justice Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
The tribunal also ordered the confiscation of the properties of the convicts. -UNB
