A US business delegation is visiting Bangladesh to explore investment opportunities in key sectors, including energy, technology, agriculture and finance, as Dhaka seeks to attract greater foreign investment.
“Leading American companies across energy, technology, agriculture, and finance are here to explore opportunities and build on 50+ years of US-Bangladeshi economic ties,” US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen said on Wednesday.
He welcomed the executive business delegation of the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC), which arrived in Bangladesh on August 11 and will conclude its engagements on August 13.
The visit comes amid renewed efforts to deepen economic and commercial ties between Bangladesh and the United States and attract more American investment to the country.
Separately, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has pledged to help facilitate and mobilise US$5 billion in investment over the next five years through its existing members and prospective US companies interested in Bangladesh.
The commitment was made when an AmCham Executive Committee, led by its President Syed Mohammad Kamal, met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
During the meeting, AmCham highlighted its longstanding role since 1996 in strengthening Bangladesh-US economic and commercial relations and promoting a transparent, predictable and competitive business environment.
AmCham said its member companies have already invested more than US$5 billion in Bangladesh, while significant potential remains for further investment.
The chamber also said its member companies collectively contribute more than 20 percent of the country's tax revenue, highlighting the importance of US-linked businesses to Bangladesh's economy.
AmCham sought the Prime Minister's leadership and government support in creating an enabling environment to achieve the new investment target.
The organisation also welcomed recent government measures to improve the investment and business climate, particularly reforms introduced under the FY2026-27 fiscal package aimed at making investment facilitation more practical.
The US delegation's visit, along with AmCham's new investment target, reflects growing interest among American companies in Bangladesh and efforts to expand bilateral trade and investment across multiple sectors.
